About us

We are based in Liverpool and the Isle of Man, but offer first aid training throughout Merseyside, the North West, the wider UK and the Isle of Man.

DevelopMe (formerly HBA Training Services) was set up in 2014 as a joint venture between two pre-hospital healthcare professionals. Originally recognising there were times when larger first aid training providers weren’t able to offer personalised, bespoke training for a range of businesses or organisations at an affordable price.

Seeing many businesses and organisations struggle to maintain their required first aider ratios (HSE) due to ever tighter budgets, we believed that our combined skills would be able to support organisations to get back on track with your legal responsibilities.

Over the past 10 years we have grown considerably and now offer a variety of educational courses to a wide range of organisations.

We are based in the North West of England and can travel to your establishment throughout the UK or the Isle of Man to provide in-house training, or we could arrange the hire of a venue near to you. Whatever your needs, we will do all we can to cater for you; please just ask.

Our instructors share their first-hand experience of their subject specialisms, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to our courses. All of our instructors hold relevant teaching and assessing qualifications and current DBS certificates. Please contact us if you would like more information on our quality assurance processes.

Steven Herron
Director/Lead Internal Quality Assurer

Steven is a registered Paramedic, having worked within NHS Ambulance Services for almost 20 years while continuing to work as a freelance educator for numerous organisations.

Specialising in pre-hospital care, Steven’s other educational interests include coaching, leadership & management with the aim of developing others to the fullest of their potential. He also has a love of the outdoors and has developed bespoke outdoor first aid courses for many organisations.

Steven holds the Certificate of Education (CertEd), Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, mentorship and coaching certificates and the awards in Internal and External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice and alongside his role in the ambulance service has been involved in educational development for the past 20 years.

Steven heads up the team at DevelopMe and takes a keen interest in the development of, not only the company, but also the people who work with us. If you’re interested in joining us, please do get in touch!

Jennifer Knight
Education Development Lead

Jennifer is a qualified teacher and joined DevelopMe in 2017 having previously enjoyed a career with children with Special Educational Needs.

Jennifer’s passion for education came through her completion of a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in 2012. Having enjoyed this so much and wishing to develop further, Jennifer then went on to complete her Masters in Education (MEd) in 2019.

Jennifer is passionate about lifelong learning and, whilst always enjoying working with young people, takes great joy in developing adults.

Jennifer works with the team at DevelopMe to write and develop our educational programme and works with our clients to make sure their needs are met, while working to ensure our standards are always second to none!

In 2013, the Health and Safety Executive changed the approval process for training providers to deliver first aid, placing the responsibility on establishments to satisfy themselves that training providers are qualified and capable of providing the training course required.
